Imaging determines everything else. Without a CT scanner, a brain hemorrhage, a spinal fracture or an abdominal tumor cannot be seen, and the patient travels to Yaoundé for a twenty-minute examination.
SIH will be equipped with a 32-slice CT scanner, a conventional radiology room and an ultrasound scanner. It is a platform without equivalent within a 600-kilometer radius, and it will serve patients referred by other facilities in the region as well as the hospital's own.
The department is overseen by a shareholder who is the Africa lead at a global imaging equipment manufacturer, giving SIH direct access to the maker for radiographer training, preventive maintenance and spare parts — the point on which most technical platforms installed in the region fail.
