Successful orthopedic surgery is not judged in the theater but three months later, by how the patient walks. That is the work of physiotherapy.
The department will provide rehabilitation after knee, hip and shoulder surgery, functional recovery after fractures, respiratory physiotherapy for inpatients, and treatment of low back pain and musculoskeletal conditions.
Being part of the hospital is not an organizational detail. Rehabilitation begins at the bedside, in the days following surgery, with the operating surgeon within earshot — rather than elsewhere, weeks later, once stiffness has set in.
